The literacy collection kits are tubs containing a variety of books on different topics.  Topics include high interest fiction and non-fiction, history, science, math, theatre, art, inventions, sports, graphic novels, media literacy, and more.

Novel Sets

Flat Stanley, by Jeff Brown.

After a bulletin board falls on Stanley while he’s sleeping, he finds that being flat has its advantages.  Reading level: Primary.

 

Castle Diary: the Journal of Tobias Burgess, by Richard Platt.

As a page in his uncle’s castle in thirteenth-century England, eleven-year-old Tobias records in his journal his experiences learning how to hunt, play games of skill, and behave in noble society. Includes notes on noblemen, castles, and feudalism.  Reading level: Junior.

 

 

We All Fall Down, by Eric Walters.

Today is September 10, 2001.  As an assignment, all the students in Will’s class will be going to their parents’ workplaces tomorrow.  Reading level: Intermediate.

 

 

The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini.

Traces the unlikely friendship of a wealthy Afghan youth and a servant’s son, in a tale that spans the final days of Afghanistan’s monarchy through the atrocities of the present day.  Reading level: Senior.
